TOUR // Julianna Barwick Shares New Tour Dates

lady100

“The consistent loveliness of [Barwick’s] approach remains, and both longtime fans and newcomers should be glad to know that’s also true of…Barwick’s upcoming, self-produced ‘Will.’” – Pitchfork

“Will is an irresistibly immersive set piece”  – Uncut (8/10)

“It’s her best all-round effort to date, explorations becoming confident fact”  – DIY (8/10)

Julianna Barwick is pleased to share new tour dates in support of her critically acclaimed album ‘Will,’ which came out in May via Dead Oceans. Full dates below.

Conceived and self-produced over the past year in a variety of locations, the ominous, compelling ‘Will’ is a departure from 2013’s Alex Somers-produced Nepenthe. If that last record conjured images of gentle, thick fog rolling over desolate mountains, then Will is a late afternoon thunderstorm, a cathartic collision of sharp and soft textures that sounds looming and restorative all at once.

The electric current that runs through the album takes on various shapes of intoxicating instability. Featuring contributions from Thomas Arsenault (Mas Ysa), Dutch cellist Maarten Vos and percussionist, Jamie Ingalls (Chairlift, Tanlines, Beverly), Will is largely a product of ups and downs, a reflection of a life lived somewhere in between transience and standing still. The beguiling, beautifully complicated Will is the result of that curiosity, and proof of Barwick’s irresistibly engaging talent as a composer and vocalist.

Barwick begins her European tour today in Amsterdam and plays London next Wednesday. Autumn dates have been shared today, including Green Man Festival and regional UK shows.

WATCH // Julianna Barwick Shares “Same” Video; ‘Will’ Out Now

Julianna Barwick’s music belongs to a pocket universe. That is to say, it’s other-worldly yet tethered to our current state of time and place. Earthly elements (vocals, keys, etc.) are contorted, folded, layered to dizzying effect. Her new album, Will, makes for a great case study. “Same”, the second single off Will, is our case in point – and now it has a captivating video to boot. Read the rest of this entry »

RELEASE DAY // Julianna Barwick’s ‘Will’ is Out Worldwide Today

DOC110-1

“To listen to the music of Julianna Barwick is to be swept away; to be transported someplace sacred. It’s the sound of yearning, searching and escape.” – NPR Music

“The consistent loveliness of [Barwick’s] approach remains, and both longtime fans and newcomers should be glad to know that’s also true of…Barwick’s upcoming, self-produced Will.” – Pitchfork

“Writing about just one Julianna Barwick track feels like reviewing only one star in the constellation.” –SPIN

Today marks the release of a truly special record from Julianna Barwick, namely her third full-length, Will. Conceived and self-produced over the past year in a variety of locations, Will is a travelogue of sorts – weaving together swaths of inspiration from a desolate house in upstate New York to the Moog Factory in Asheville, North Carolina to Lisbon, Portugal.

An electric current runs throughout the record, sharp and soft textures colliding to cathartic results. Will is a late afternoon thunderstorm – looming and restorative all at once.

Barwick will tour in support of Will starting this week in Los Angeles. She’s added a new date at Bowery Ballroom in NYC on June 25th. Mas Ysa will support. Full list of dates below.
