Akron/Family’s Seth Olinsky has been out in Tucson, AZ over the last year, “reading all the Dune books and a bunch of Cormac McCarthy while exploring American primitivist musics through the lens of Dylan, extreme tube saturation, and wild West African guitar musics.” His adventure has morphed into a new project he’s calling Cy Dune and a record is very much in the works; in fact, Seth is mixing it now. Recording the music in both Tucson and Brooklyn, Seth invited musicians Shahzad Ismaily, Andrew Barker, William Parker, Dave Hartley and Chris Powell to join in on the making. Watch the video for “Just Kids” above.
Family Tree Records is putting out a SUPER SUPER limited, hand-etched 7″ of new CY Dune songs, “No Recognize” amd “Yellin’.” Only 20 copies will be created on square, clear vinyl. Purchase HERE.
We have something incredibly special to share today. The Society of International Musicians have taken on Akron/Family’s “Another Sky” and done so beautifully. Led by Director Illya Riske and based in Bangladesh, the group is the Asian University for Women’s choir and is comprised of students from Nepal, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Sri Lanka, China, Palestine and Myanmar. The song is just one of many the choir has chosen to perform. You can stream “Another Sky” below. The song and the rest of the choir’s album is available for purchase via Bandcamp. All proceeds go to fund the growing music program, more specifically to provide guitar lessons and instruments to the young women. Learn more about the school and choir HERE.
Gauntlet Hair are set to tour North America starting April 22nd in New York and eventually ending in San Diego. A rotating cast of Pictureplane, IG88 and Dana Buoy – the new solo project of Akron/Family’s Dana Janssen, will join GH in their shows. Check out the full list of dates below!
Portland’s Into the Woods.tv caught up with Gauntlet Hair for their “Far From Home” series. After a good ole run-in with the police, the band and crew are forced to cut their work a bit short, but as always, the end product is stellar (and it all happened under a bridge). Watch GH perform “Lights Out” live above.

Watch all four videos HERE.
Musoscribe talked with bassist Miles Seaton during their tour too. Bill Kopp gets the lowdown from Seaton on tour, musical influences and recording. “You do create a relationship with people through your songs; its almost an act of generosity,” comments Seaton. Read the full interview.
